Last night I went on a sukkah hop with a few housemates. It was spectacular. $30 for several hours of mixing and mingling with young professionals over drinks and food, in and out of sukkahs at two synagogues and the JCC. Transportation included, of course. I highly recommend that everyone tries this if it's available nearby.
Sukkahs are the temporary dwellings Jews build to celebrate Sukkot, a harvest festival. They are decorated and have minimal roofs so you can see the stars from within. My housemates and I spent a few hours last week putting ours up in the yard. We had metal poles from Avodah, but our roof was sadly lacking... as were our decorations. We did make signs for our neighbors in English and in Spanish, but unfortunately they blew away with the rain last night. I appreciate the change in temperature though!
And of course, I completely forgot that I had my camera, and didn't take any photos. So sorry!
